The City of San Francisco needed a secure refuge in the Mission neighborhood to address a public health crisis caused by increased homeless encampments.
The new Division Circle Navigation Center, operated by SVDP-SF, provides safe sleeping quarters, case management, basic healthcare, and social services, helping clients access housing and support programs.
Sprung delivered two fully insulated structures, oriented perpendicularly to form a community courtyard with a garden, outdoor activity area, and off-leash dog run. The larger structure (18.3 m × 41.1 m, 60’ × 135’) serves as a dormitory with 126 beds, while the smaller structure (18.3 m × 22.9 m, 60’ × 75’) houses staff offices, pantry, laundry, dining, and lounge areas. Stand-alone units provide restrooms and showers.
In its first month, the center supported over 200 individuals with case management, medical care, mental health and substance abuse screening, and housing assistance.
