To safely welcome students back for in-person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rice University required additional classroom space to allow for physical distancing and reduce student density.
Sprung delivered four fully insulated classroom structures measuring 15.2 m × 22.9 m (50’ × 75’) on new concrete foundations. Completed within three months, the classrooms feature heating and air conditioning, automatic doors, movable furniture, power outlets, and audiovisual technology. On evenings and weekends, they serve as study and collaboration spaces.
Additionally, Sprung provided five open-sided structures, each 12.2 m × 18.3 m (40’ × 60’), positioned around campus for outdoor events. All structures are expected to remain in use for five or more years, providing flexible, long-term solutions for the university.
